Work day #3: bush-hogging!

Work day #3: bush-hogging!

Yesterday was work day #3 at the farm.  Randy and I are in the routine now of waking up at 3 am and getting on the road by 4 am.  I tried herbal tea instead of coffee, which doesn’t really agree with me, only to discover that pre-dawn drives should not be attempted without caffeine.

We jumped in to clearing the fence line, taking out sweet gum and sumac, leaving the wild roses and eastern red cedar.  Wayne came around 6:30 to bush hog with his dad and a big John Deere tractor.  After hogging our two-acre base of operations, he took a sweep around the big field.

The place looks totally different!  We can actually see what we’re working with.  Much to my surprise, we have a big oak tree that I had thought was on Paul’s side of the fence.  We were able to move the trailer site further north toward the treeline where we will get more shade from our oak and Paul’s trees.

The septic guy, who is the well guy’s son, came around 9 am with his son.  Now we’ve got plans for a waste water treatment system – once the trailer is in, city water is installed, and electricity, that is!  Wow is there a lot to do.

It was cooler yesterday, and after measuring out some areas for garden plots, we decided to quit while we were ahead and not work ourselves into the ground.  We took the scenic route out past Snow Lake, got ourselves lost on some gravel roads, and finally emerged in Holly Springs for lunch at Annie’s Restaurant.

Driving home without A/C and a full belly is about as bad as driving at 4 am with no caffeine!  We did make it home safely, but I am sure looking forward to the day when the farm is home.
