Greenhouse Blowout!!!

Greenhouse Blowout!!!

Let’s just cut to the chase, shall we?  The greenhouse blew down.  Wednesday night we had a wicked storm.  The front blew through and we thought we were in the clear.  Then, around 9:30 or 10pm, a severe thunderstorm popped up and walloped us.  The wind shook the house.  I looked out the window, and as the lightening illuminated the sky I noticed the greenhouse looked a little fun-house wonky.  The wind had lifted it up in the middle, pulled the ribs out of the ground so that the middle was smooshed and the ends leaned in.

Miraculously, the baby plants in the greenhouse were spared.  THIS SUNDAY we will be rebuilding and would be happy to have help if anyone is free.

It has been an amazing week for thunderstorms.  Sunday night we sat on the porch and watched lightening all around, a natural fireworks display.  As the sky lit up we watched an owl slowly winging low across the front yard.  We’ve gotten about 5 inches of rain in the past week, which means a good soaking for lots of thirsty plants but also lots of exploded tomatoes.  This week has also been hot, hopefully the last hurrah of summer before more comfortable temperatures set in.
